Sarah and I are off on a small but exciting road trip starting tomorrow. We're flying out to Portland, Maine, renting a car, staying a couple days in Acadia National Park, then headed into New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. We'll be hitting up 3 National Parks of Canada: Fundy, Cape Breton, and Kejimkujik.
We're going to be camping for 4 nights, hotels/bnbs for 6 nights. Packing our 2 person tent which is just big enough for a queen size air mattress. We'll be stopping at Wally World early on to pick up an air matress, blankets, and pillows. We'll have to figure out what to do with them near the end of the trip...
General plan is drive through scenic areas, stop where we feel like it, eat lots of CHOWDAH and LOBSTAH ayuh. Neither of us have actually had a lobster roll before so we're ready to eat and compare. If I post much during the trip (not sure based on connectivity) we'll make some sort of rating system.
We picked up just like $350 CAD before, planning on using card the whole time if possible though.
Here's the map. I included driving hours this time which will help us remember how much time we have to stop and do things without getting carried away.
Boring Budget stuff:
Car rental (small suv): $922
Camp Reservations: $120
Hotels: $800
Ferry: $282
Food and Wal-Mart Camp Gear estimate: ?? 600 ??
Boat Star Gazing Tickets: $141
TOTAL: $2865
The cad conversion was pretty good. We have one Bed and Breakfast with Lobster dinners reserved for 300 CAD which is like 213 USD. We did also make 4 bookings through a couple of our credit cards that gave $50 bucks back, but not particularly important for the total.
I'm not sure what food will be. Conversion rate is good, but we're going to be eating out most of the time. I just threw 600 in there to also include the stuff we have to buy for camping.
For flights we got the Southwest Companion Pass in January, which means we get BOGO flights for 2 years. This was the first time we got to use it. The round trip ticket point cost for BOTH of us was:
Flight: 31,500 points (which is like nothing)
I got the 2 SW credit cards to get over 100,000 points which is what you need for companion pass. After using these points we still have 141,000. We're going to have to try and do like random weekend trips next year to avoid using PTO but still getting the benefit of the BOGO. Thinking:
Colorado (to visit Casa Bonita)
New Orleans & Baton Rouge (born in Baton Rouge, never been to Louisiana since)
Vegas?
We're definitely planning an Alaska trip which will be longer than a weekend. Things to plan later.
Looking forward to a fun trip. Not sure if I'll post every day but will try and post some pics some time.
