Better Taxi, on Crete

This morning we packed up our stuff and checked out of the hotel.  There was some waiting to be done as our Ferry to Heraklion, Crete wouldnt leave until 4pm.  Nico arranged a taxi for us at 2 to the port.  We mostly just sat with some coffee for a few hours and found a shady spot to sit.

The taxi driver was awesome and a completely different experience than the first taxi.  It was just us and he was talkative, and I forgot his name :( But he continued the chain of greeks that have gotten very excited that we're going to Crete.  He was saying every Greek takes trips to Crete, the food is great and people have big hearts.  He have a pro tip on Raki, a drink given during meals.  He said you shoot it, dont sip it or theyll look down on you.  We mentioned were from minnesota and he said he jnew all the teams with nba teams as a lot of greeks do now as theres a greek nba player Giannis Antetokounmpo who plays for the Milwaukee Bucks.

The ride was smoother and much more pleasant, less fear of death on the super steep slopes down to the port.  Its 5 hairin turns and the road is like 30 degrees.

We waited for the ferry and had some coke and fries at one of the ferry cafes.  First time having ketchup here and it was...delicious.  like not sure if its specific to Greece or maybe Europe as a whole, but it was far less sweet and a little vinegary.  Im normally not big on ketchup but we like smothered the fries.

The ferry came and there was a massive flood of roller luggage and travellers.  Getting onboard was kind of crazy only 1 person was scanning tickets, just a huge funnel with people shouting at where to go for people.  We got on ok and after sitting down for a short while went up on deck.  It was windy and pretty cool out.  Probably was in the low 70s with lots of wind from the boats speed.  Took about 2 hours and we landed.

The boat left a bit late so wehad to change our plans a little bit.  The Heraklion Museum, one of the major points Ive wanted to visit on the trip is onoy open until 8pm, and we didnt have enough time for it tonight.  So we chilled and watched 1 of 2 english tv channels bbc news.  It was a show about a kid whos face was bitten off by a hyena and reconstructed.

We had a reservation at the hotel restaraunt.  It was fine.  We did try Mizithra cheese for the first time which is a Cretan cheese from sheeps or goats.  We learned/realized something thay hadnt clicked before.  Outside of America you might have to ask for ghe check...and then ask for them to take the check.  We were there an extra hour and 15 min because we were so slow to realize this.  Whooops.  Now were super tired.  So thats it, just a transitional day, but excited tomorrow for a lot of activity.
